Dr Nicholas Hulme
Consultant Geriatrician Tauranga Hospital, Tauranga, NZ
Picture

I am a consultant geriatrician who moved to the beautiful Bay of Plenty in 2019 after completing my training in London, United Kingdom.

Over the last 12 months I have set up a new acute service at Tauranga hospital for the peri-operative assessment of older surgical admissions and I also run a pre-assessment 'POPS' clinic for elective orthopaedic surgery.

The Benefits of an Acute POPS Service
For the last 12 months there has been a new service providing early geriatrician review of older acute surgical admissions. We have called this the Acute POPS service. I hope to give some insight into the benefits and pitfalls of this new service and how it will shape things to come in the care of older surgical patients.
